Meet the team
Dr. Carmen-Silva Sergiou is a forensic neuroscientist and postdoctoral researcher at the Youth at Risk department of the Amsterdam UMC.
Her research focuses on emotion-regulated aggression, using innovative, non-invasive real-time neuroscience technologies to study and modulate the psychological and neural processes underlying aggression in forensic populations. Through her research line, FORNEUROTECH, she aims to integrate neuroscience and technology to advance forensic care.
Dr. Josanne van Dongen is an Associate Professor of Forensic Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she leads the forensic psychology education within the Master’s program in Forensic and Legal Psychology. Her work focuses on electrophysiology and brain modulation to examine the role of empathy in relation to callous–unemotional traits to develop novel interventions aimed at reducing the risk of violence.
Prof. Maaike Kempes works at the Netherlands Institute for Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology (NIFP). From this position, she also holds a special professorship in Forensic Neuropedagogy at the Institute of Education and Child Studies at Leiden University. Her chair focuses on understanding how neurobiology contributes to the assessment and diagnosis of individuals who display delinquent behavior, with a particular emphasis on young people involved in the criminal justice system.
Lucres Nauta-Jansen is Professor of Translational Forensic Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychosocial Care at the Amsterdam University Medical Center in Amsterdam. She leads the At-Risk Youth section, which studies young people displaying disruptive or delinquent behavior—from those at high risk of contact with the justice system to youths in forensic child and adolescent psychiatry.
Dr. Ilse van de Groep is a Healthy Start Fellow working in the SYNC lab and the Department of Clinical Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her research focuses on the behavioral and neural development of antisocial behavior in young adulthood and on strategies to support and motivate young adults with antisocial behavior and addiction problems in pursuing their long-term goals.
